Insurance adjusters often try to discourage injured workers from hiring attorneys to assist with their workers' compensation claims. Why would they do this? Does it really matter whether or not you hire an attorney to represent you in your workers' compensation case?
Without an attorney, you are at the mercy of the insurance company. The insurance company is not your friend. Even if the insurer's representatives seem helpful, they will not tell you anything about your rights or benefits unless they are absolutely required by law to do so. This is why you need someone on your side to level the playing field to ensure you don't lose any of your rights.
In the same way that the insurer will not always tell you the whole story when it comes to your rights, they will actively work behind the scenes to devalue your case. Your attorney can protect you from these tactics. You need an advocate in your corner to hold the insurance company accountable and to negotiate effectively to obtain the full settlement value for your claim.
